Volunteers of America
Volunteers of America:

Volunteers of America is more than a nonprofit organization. We are a ministry of service that includes nearly 16,000 paid, professional employees dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.

Through our hundreds of human service programs, including housing and healthcare, Volunteers of America helps more than 2 and a half million people in over 400 communities in 46 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Since 1896, we have supported and empowered America's most vulnerable groups, including veterans, at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. Our work touches the mind, body, heart — and ultimately the spirit — of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services. Approximately 60,000 volunteers throughout the country help our employees deliver these life-changing services. For more information on our services, go to: http://www.voa.org/.

Our latest PSA campaign, a collaborative effort between Volunteers of America and the Major League Baseball Players Trust, encourages high school students to get involved in their communities and help those in need. Action Team is a national youth volunteer program designed to recruit and train the next generation of volunteers.

Through this partnership, Major Leaguers help encourage students to serve as Action Team Captains, who in turn deliver an important message to their peers: volunteering is cool, fun and personally rewarding. Action Team members recruit fellow high school students to volunteer in projects which address local community needs.

The Action Team program continues to add new schools regularly, and now enjoys the support of more than 100 high schools in 34 states and Puerto Rico. Since its inception, it has inspired more than 82,000 high school students to help more than 254,000 people in need.

The latest campaign is called “Legacy,” since it was created to highlight how far the program has come since its inception in 2003. The call to action encourages students, teachers and administrators to participate, and visit a dedicated web site at www.ActionTeam.org/Legacy.
